Digital Photography Cheaper In the Long Run

I recently had a conversation with a friend of mine about the benefits of digital verses film photography. Like most people, unless your a professional, shooting digital is the most economical of the photography world. You may put out some big money for a really nice digital Single Lens Reflex camera, but the advantages far out weigh the purchase of a cheap film SLR camera. I'm sure if you sit and think of the money spent buying the film, shooting it (not knowing if you got the shot for sure), taking the film to be processed, buying the processed film, then choosing which photos you want. Of course your still trying to remember if you got the shot that you really wanted. And at last, you accumulate all of these photos in some organized order, which probably means, buying photo books to put the photos into. Whew, that's a lot of money and time spent, just to save on a cheap film SLR.
Now, looking at shooting with digital SLR cameras and you can see whether or not you got the shot, (didn't get it, oops, change settings and shoot again), you then take your digital images home, load them on your computer and organize them without spending another dime, or wasting time to get them processed.
How much is it worth? You decide, by the time you get your photos they are old news and everyone has already seen each others photos. Are you still waiting to get the film processed or do have put them up in some kind of display? Meanwhile, the rest of us are talking about the next photo opportunity that is being organized.
I recommend that you not get lost in the film buying and film processing "fiasco" and get your new digital SLR as soon as possible and quit wasting your money and most of all your time waiting for your photos.

Organizing Your Digital Images

What is the best way to organize your photos? There are many different ways to organize photos but what is the easiest way and what will make it quick to find what your looking for in your list of files. I find that organizing by year, then by a common file name, with months with inside that name. I find it easy to move files and find what I want. For example, I find that if I shoot sunsets, I make a file folder called Sunsets. I then move each years worth into that file folder and thus I keep all of the same files together. Granted if you have a long list of file folders, you need to have some kind of listing in mind, but if you stick to the rule of people, places and things, I think you will not have to much problem with file folders. On the other hand, if you have thousands of photos and you need to organize them, I would start by sorting them by date, then moving them to their prospective year. Once you have them organized by year, then move your photos into the respective file folder. Hopefully all of your dated files will be at least in a yearly format and then however you move them in regards to file folders will be up to you. Happy Organizing!!
