The art of shooting fireworks can be quite tricky. The most important thing is timing and patience, of course having the correct lens settings does make a difference. I believe you can find different information about how to shoot fireworks, but I think you have to develop your own technical trial and error method to achieve the results you are looking for in a fireworks photo. I shoot with a bulb setting for the timing and a f/Stop of 22 for really sharp photos. Technically it involves holding the shutter release down, that is holding the lens open until the explosion has dissipated. Again, it is about timing, patience and how much light you want to paint across your photos. Give it a try, you'll be pleasantly surprised!
